Yesterdays training- 90km tempo then 125km race, did 110km of that in the break, then motorpacing for a total of 240km, 6h 40min, 5350 Kj.
Beautiful saturday afternoon, picked up Amber after work on the scooter, scooted to White Rock, walked on the beach and enjoyed a great dinner at Italian Touch. Really doesn’t get much better than that, Ciao.
As of right now I think I am leaning towards the Rancilio Silvia, this sweet little unit is looking like the best bang for the buck. Lots of commercial unit type features like full brass boiler and water lines. I mean of course I like any other coffee enthusiast would love a Brewtus like K-Bomb or a tight Simonelli like TT, but unlike those guys I ride for a struggling cycling team and still want to be able to afford living after the money runs out, hahah. If there is someone out there wanting to give the Bros some skookum deal on a higher end machine just let me know and they can be the official Espresso Machine of Biking Bros Coffee. Otherwise it’s looking like the Rancillio; which is great by me, or I see that Kitchen Aid is making some nice units these days.
Have been thinking about getting an espresso machine, after spending the time down in Jake’s place in Portland. Between our little competitions pulling shots and drinking some of the best coffee I have ever had at Stumptown, I am once again hooked. I usually spend every morning up at the Boss Man’s (Kev Cunningham) house drinking coffee and checking Internet, but I am nowlonging for something more than just pushing the buttons on his super automatic Saeco and it spewing out an average shot with a mediocre crema. I am looking for a nice semi-automatic so I can spend my morning trying to pull that perfect shot with a thick chocolaty crema and steam that perfect milk, not to mention I am going to need one for when the Biking Bros Coffee come out.
We’ve now got about 2 weeks until it’s time to pack up agian and hit the road for Philly week and Tour de Beauce, so my coach Richard and I have looked at what we can work on in this somewhat short time. We decided that we needed to get some more time on the new time trial bike most, and so with 4 hard TT sessions before I have to leave for Philly on June 1st hopefully things will start coming around abit more on that end. At the same time we have to be careful to take enough rest so that we are not starting the next block of race with fatigue already in the legs. Sure am glad I have a coach, haha, I mean my program would be quite simple: 6h a day, but my results would probably be quite simple to: crap.
Mt Hood finished up with a crit in downtown Hood River on a scorching afternoon. Healthnet was still leading the race and seemed content to let a small break roll up the, tried in vain to get in there but no dice but Pinner did manage to get in there and take the sprint win. There were 2 Rock Racing guys up that crashed each other in the final lap, sucks crashing your team mate. All in all a good little tour for training and managed a decent results with a podium on stage 3. Next up is Philly week and the canadian version on the Tour de France, the Tour de Beauce.
