Have been watching some TV back home here a bit in the last little while, haven’t watched much TV in awhile seeing as how the unit doesn’t have any fancy shmanzy cable hook up. Can’t say I have really missed it either, just shows about retard kids who are absolutely loaded, driving fancy cars and living it up in LA. Then there’s the soaps my mom like to watch were the acting is about as good as a porn. Looking forward to getting home and going to see Walle in theaters, Hancook looks pretty good to. Just saw Hulk at the drive-in last weekend when Amber was still here, hadn’t been to the drive-in since I was a much younger man so that was pretty cool.

Great day of training today, sunny skies with big white fluffy clouds, beautiful countryside, quiet rolling roads(only got passed by a handful of cars all day), really is abit of a cycling paradise out here…

Did the NB provincial championships yesterday, which just happened to in my local town and on my regular training routes. Rode away about 2km in and did the last 98km solo, but the sweetest thing ever was that they a KOM competition during the race and the trophy was a bear skull mounted on a plaque. Being solo all day I got to take the trophy home and its definitely the coolest trophie I have ever won, fangs in tact and all. After the race we had a big BBQ at my place, lots of kabobs and drinks, good times.

The day before yesterday I got a call from a friend who is with my local club, Kings County Wheeler(where it all began for me), and an employee at the local Sears to tell me to come down and meet some people doing a ride for cancer. I thought, OK there is a few people doing some fundraising for the local cancer centre nothing crazy but I’ll definitely still go down there because any sort of fundraising or awareness campaign for cancer great and needs all the support it can get. But when I arrived I was hugely surprised by a huge caravan of decaled cars, campers, a semi sporting a trailer retrofitted with sleeping bunks and a big group of cyclists getting geared up for the days ride. I came to find out that this was a cancer fundraising campaign sponsored nation wide by Sears and that the ride had started in Vancouver on June 2nd and that 3 groups of cyclists were riding 24/7 in shifts to cross the country in 19 days raising huge amounts of money for cancer research and all this coming through my small town in rural NB. So after what I thought was just going to be a bit of a meet and greet I was eager to go riding with the group and was excited that the route they were taking for the days 150km leg went right past my house. Most of them being avid cyclists they knew about Symmetrics and were a bit surprised to come upon some pro cyclist out in the middle of no where. After leading the group out of town I rode with them for about an hour before turning back, but I really enjoyed chatting with all the riders and wish I could have ridden with them the whole way, they all had great stories and where truly happy to just be out riding their bikes on the beautiful sunny day.
After spending the Monday morning after Beauce exploring the streets of old Quebec and the hallways of the Chateau Frontenac with my sweetheart it was into the car for the 8h drive to back home New Brunswick. It has been a bit cloudy and rainy the last couple days, but you always forget just how beautiful it is here until you come back. When you listen all you hear is birds chirping, maybe some frogs from the pond, but other than that you hear nothing, sweet sweet nothing. Have been spending the days visiting and lazing about, spend precious time with Amber. Going to do a race in my town on the weekend so that should be fun, hopefully not get spanked to badly by the local riders…
