Riding..

The day before yesterday I got a call from a friend who is with my local club, Kings County Wheeler(where it all began for me), and an employee at the local Sears to tell me to come down and meet some people doing a ride for cancer. I thought, OK there is a few people doing some fundraising for the local cancer centre nothing crazy but I’ll definitely still go down there because any sort of fundraising or awareness campaign for cancer great and needs all the support it can get. But when I arrived I was hugely surprised by a huge caravan of decaled cars, campers, a semi sporting a trailer retrofitted with sleeping bunks and a big group of cyclists getting geared up for the days ride. I came to find out that this was a cancer fundraising campaign sponsored nation wide by Sears and that the ride had started in Vancouver on June 2nd and that 3 groups of cyclists were riding 24/7 in shifts to cross the country in 19 days raising huge amounts of money for cancer research and all this coming through my small town in rural NB.  So after what I thought was just going to be a bit of a meet and greet I was eager to go riding with the group and was excited that the route they were taking for the days 150km leg went right past my house.  Most of them being avid cyclists they knew about Symmetrics and were a bit surprised to come upon some pro cyclist out in the middle of no where. After leading the group out of town I rode with them for about an hour before turning back, but I really enjoyed chatting with all the riders and wish I could have ridden with them the whole way, they all had great stories and where truly happy to just be out riding their bikes on the beautiful sunny day.
