Ups and Downs…

Been awhile since I have written a significant post and there have been some real ups and downs in the past month. Starting with my first grand tour, which was a great time and an amazing experience. The first week and a half was filled with crashes and lots of time working on the front, the second filled with wins by Tyler and Ryder and some time of my own in the break. Grand tours are tough but the Vuelta this year just fueled my hunger for more.

Then there were the low times. With the finish of my first grand tour just around the bend I got a call that my brother had passed away. The next day I was starting my journey home to be with my family and for the funeral. My brother passed just days before his 26th birthday leaving behind a wife and two young children. He died after a battling cancer for six months. It all happened very fast and started with a brain tumor, which was removed before the cancer returned again and spread to fatal proportions. Throughout his battle he always remained upbeat and optimistic as much for himself as the people around him and its so sad to lose such a young person to such a horrible disease. A hard hit reminder to enjoy you life to the fullest as you never know what’s coming around the next bend. He’ll be missed by many.

We have now returned to Girona to finish off the rest of the season with Paris Tours, Piedmont and Lombardia. The weather here is perfect with temps in the mid twenties and sunny shining brightly. Svein is at worlds and just placed a solid 15th in the TT, he was happy as after a turbulent time this year with crashes he finally felt like he had the push back in his legs. Good luck to the boys tomorrow in the road race.
